why does my (red) flat tire light come on and scare the crap out of me at about 90+ MPH occasionally? Happened again today.

It means that one of the tires is getting low -- around 10 psi too
low. I would check the pressure in all four tires first.

I believe the system senses wheel speed (via the ABS sensors) and when
one of the wheels slows down enough compared to the others then it
thinks that pressure is low at one. At least that's the principle.
The faster you go, the greater the wheel speed differential. So this
is *my guess* as to why the thing signals low pressure at 90+. But I
could be wrong. Maybe your car just doesn't like to go fast 8-).
