Actually, a $75,000 M6 sounds about $5K less than I would expect it to go for, considering the pricing that your friend/acquaintance at BMWNA said the 645ci will go for and the price difference between the current 540i and the M5. The 745i starts at just under $70K. The 540i loaded is about $63K and the M5 is roughly $71K. Given those price differences, If the 645ci loaded is going to be about the same price as a base 745i, then I woud expect the M6 to go for $80,000
I don't agree with Road Track's assesment for this potential Lexus' competitors (I think it's R&T, I could be mistaken): this car would be clearly aimed at the Mercedes CL. In this regard, it can do extemely well. The big problem this car has witih competing with the likes of the "budget" Aston Martin and Lamborghini is that Lexus doesn't have the sporting credibility that those other do. It'll be a battle for them to establish themselves as a viable candidate in this market. But they do have the luxury credibility, which makes this car the perfect competitor for the CL. Of course, Infiniti had no sporting credibility, save for the distant past, but the FX35/45 and G35 sedan and coupe instantly established the brand as a competitor. So, if Lexus were to devote itself towards making itself a competitor in this rarified arena, I think they could accomplish it.
And, as opposed to some rather juvenile people, I'll never refuse "to buy a Lex. PERIOD!". While what Lexus is producing doesn't particularly interest me at this point (other than the GS300, but there're a few cars I'd take over that car; oh yeah, the upcoming RX330 hybrid sounds pretty sweet, but that's not out yet), their cars are really nice and really reliable. If they made a car that fit what I wanted in a car, why would categorically refuse to buy such a car? Because of the badge? Because of what other cars the parent company makes? Please, that's the most pathetic thing I've ever heard. People who think like that have to develop some maturity and intelligence. If you think the car you drive endows you with some sort of class or style, you're sorely mistaken, and that sound you hear is the sound of people laughing at you behind your back because you're so pathetic. And unless Toyota is found out to be doing something evil against the environment, its workers, or the like, why would I refuse to buy something from them? It doesn't make much sense. And the same goes for any make- if the company puts out a good product, why would I care what label is attached?

If they make the car look like a cross between the first generation Neon (the 'smiling' grill), a current Celica (headlamps), and a Renault Megane (the kink in the rear of the glass), then it won't do all that well.
If this picture i wrong (and I do hope it is; anyway, I don't put too much stock in artist renderings), and it looks nice, it'll do very well. Personally, I hope, if Lexus does produce this car, that they it look sort of like a fresh version of the SC300/400. I always the original SC was a good looking car. I'm not really a fan of the French Riviera yacht-inspired look of the current SC (seriously, that was the inspiration for the current SC), A classic GT based on one of Lexus' first design hits would be great.

I own both a BMw and a Lexus. Both are fine car but you can't beat Lex on dependability and service.

'83 528e- Finally home with glassy smooth graphit metallic paint and new red leather seats. Sweet, like candy.
'84 Camry- The other car, faster than the eta, just not as pimp. Trade ya for a basket case sixer, anybody?
