This reminds me of my psychology surrounding waiting for 100.00 DVD players to come out instead of buying them when they were new and costed, what, Thousands!?

Glad I didn't spend 1500 to try to eek out 5hp from an exhaust system when the Cab already has one that works pretty well..

:)

The Ground Control guys act like they're a little tired of all of us:)

My bet...and I haven't called or talked to Dale/Jay since Tuesday...they've received 1000+ calls about it in 8 hours all with the same questions...the same questions...the same questions...the same questions.

They're probably just plain tired...not tired of us...just tired.

Is it just increasing the flow of air by increasing the diameter of the mesh?

Is the reason why removing the filter didn't do anything for HP gains because the limiting factor was the mesh AFTER the filter?

Has anyone else done before/after dynos on the same day with this?

Here's a dyno from a prototype. Prototype used was more of a "prove the principle" thing...was plastic, square grid, not real smooth surface...not real fancy.

I've noticed on Dyno runs (that are about 15 mins apart) that dynos seem to do:

X on first run
X + ~5 hp on second
X + ~1 hp on third

It was fairly consistent that the 2nd run was always the highest (both on Mustang and Dynojets) for the 3 M3s I tested (1 couple, 2 cabs).

That is 3 runs, 15 mins apart. First one with a warmed up car (i.e. driven for 30 mins then put on Dyno and run within 10 mins of stopping -- with some time idling).

I'd be interested in hearing if other people saw that in their dyno runs... and if so, it would be interesting to try 4th and 5th runs where the power remains fairly static to see how the Gizmo did (on vs off).

you will be wasting your time...

Throw it in and drive.. you will feel the car rev easier initially until you get used to it.

Dynoing it this way and that way, upside down and inside down, is a waste of your time for a $78 part.

3 runs pre, 3 runs post.

drive car, get hot (oil temp straight up)
hookup
idle 5 mins
run 3 runs <5 mins between w/ large fan (not standard little sucker - a big'n)
baseline...each run got higher range was 264-269

post, same story xcpt run 3 was lower than 2...yeah, I noticed that trend and that's why we did a 3rd run post. RR remembers me saying something about that, i'll bet.

Those numbers are BEST baseline # and AVG postmod. Take them w/ grain of salt...I encourage you too. I choose to present the increase in what _I_ think is a fair manner.

I could have averaged both the pre and post #'s and shown a larger gain, but I'm not sure the oil temp was all the way up on the first run after we shut down to do the dyno hookup. Just trying to be fair.

JM NEVER asked me to dyno it. I asked him for the part because Snook mentioned it in May. I asked JM about it when I bought sways in June.

I volunteered to dyno it, and JM really didn't take me seriously...don't think he thought I would.

I dont know if I'll dyno the new part. I probably should. Anybody wanna chip in some dyno-time cash? hehe

5 hp at the rear wheels, or 6 hp at the crank both work out the same, 1.8%, as a net gain. C'mon guys...the price as parts go is good, but this isn't the second coming. If you actually think you feel anything, I'd suggest that you probably are the type that thinks their cold has gone away after taking a sugar pill.

expect supercharging here....have had the prototype for some time now...about a year....and honestly there is a teeny tiny difference..that can be noticed if you give it a fair shake....

but mind and body, will soon learn the teeny tiny change, and it no longer can be perceived...

feels the same way with 3000lb car, can't notice the difference from how it used to be..
It will make you more handsome.
It will make you 0.018% faster at TWS.
It will give your sexual partner more pleasure.
It will cause you to regrow hair (not specific on where)
It will cut through coke cans and stay sharp enought for tomatos.
It will strain pasta 1.8% faster than conventional forks.

All that or your money back. (Less S&H and a $73 dollar restocking fee)

I'm a bad bad boy.

Come on guys. You bought a 50K car and you're afraid to lose 78 bucks? If so, don't buy it. You're missing out on 5HP and that's pretty subtle if your not trying to wring out every little advantage you can afford to.

It's not a wonder part. I've posted like I think it is, perhaps. It's not. It's a really cool part that has a big effect relative to it's cost, complexity, and risk (what risk?).

If you've ordered you car to save the maximum amount of weight, removed seats, lightened your unsprung weight...essentially mking a project out of eeking out the very top performance out of this car, then 5 hp is 5 hp, and this 5 hp is cheap, for sure. It's just that a 1.8% difference in power in test conditions is nothing anyone is ever going to feel in the butt dyno...more like in the brain dyno. To that buyer, I still maintain that, while this is cheap, it's also nets no benefit.

One additional caveat I'd have is that, with as crazy as BMW has been with problems and finding ways to avoid paying warranty claims, I wouldn't do anything to my motor unless it had a tangible benefit. The tangible benefit of the siftware changes, for example, might well be worth the risk if it makes owning the car more enjoyable. Ditto the exhaust if I like the sound of the car.

But hey, to each his own. I agree that it's cool of these guys to only charge $78, as we all know they could have charged more and still had more orders than they can fill...

replace it with something, with the cone filter and all...

If its just a straight shot from filter to sensor, with no "screen" whether it be OEM or not.....

it has been posted, that no screen (whether stock or gc, or other) will cause HP to be lost...Vadim from Evosport can validate that.

I've always wanted to know if Gruppe M intake has something to smooth out airflow...not saying if it does or doesn't, just something I wanted to know....but really never cared that much to ask about.
