street bike or the bmw m3. I know the motorcylce would be ahead in the straight aways but would it be able to keep the speeds up in turns?

Ok....look at it this way....

lets look at fast time at laguna seca...on July 10-13, 2003...

AMA Superbike series
fast lap was 1:25.xx on a 1000 bike..

Now lets look at fast lap at laguna seca by bmw ptg...Speed World Challenge.

Fastest qualifying M3 by Bryce Miller.....1:33.xx

So now back to yamaha vs M3....it all comes down to the rider/driver.

I'll have to see if I can dig it out. If I recall correctly, they put either a Vette or a Viper up against a superbike on a particular track. I believe the outcome was that the track was just twisty enough that the car won.

I think the article came about after the car magazine and a motorcycle magazine had a war of words over which would be faster. Now, the only problem is that I subscribe to Car and Driver, Road and Track, Motor Trend, and about 5 other car magazines, so looking through my archives of them all is daunting.
by about 8 seconds....

now as far as the argument goes....well it was a 1000 and that was a PTG Race Car.....its a difficult comparo.

what kind of bike control the rider has....

whether its faster in the turns or faster on the straights....lap time is the key....

me today . it just seems that a motorbike doesnt have as much grip in turns as a car. it just depends on the drivers i guess we will need to rent a tack and settle it there.
The bike guy said it wasn't worth the risk of sliding so he slowed down in the curves. There was too much gravel on the track for him.

there was an article in a morotcycle magazine comparing an NSX to whatever was the top sport bike at that time (I am not into bikes so I have no idea what it was). The result was that it was extremely close and came more down to the driver/rider but that a "normal" car driver could probably beat a "normal" bike rider. In other words the driver of the car was more likely to approach the limits and therefore go faster than a non-professional biker.

turns, bike wins. Off camber setup or rough track, car's suspension beats the bike.

Street bikes available to the public are *very* close to the superbikes that you'll see in AMA or World Superbike. Neil Hodgson or Matt Mladin riding a Honda RC51 (or equivalent) would smoke Montoya or Hans Stuck or Bill Auberlain in a stock M3 at most race tracks.

Now average rider vs average driver is a different story. Bikes take more skill and a hell of a lot more balls to ride fast than it takes to drive a car quickly...
