rolling from 80-120 on abandoned road and it was almost dead even. I was pulling ever so slightly on him. Love the shoe!
I call my car the M Shoe every now and then and almost got MSHOE as a vanity plate. Let's find out ...

The differences are very subtle ... the easiest is the color, if it's S54 unique, like Laguna Seca, Phoenix Yellow, or Steel Grey. The next best way to tell is from the rounded M badges, as opposed to the flat-faced ones that the S52 came with, though some owners have updated theirs. The third way to tell is from the wheel color. The older ones have the silver finish that the E36 M3s have. The S54 ones had the wheel colors updated to the same "chrome shadow" color that the M3 and M5 came with.

From the inside, the easiest way to tell is from the gauges, which are gray-faced instead of black-faced.
---

now I just have to register like 400 usernames and vote! J/K. The comment about coupe guys not liking the shoe thing was because the 2 at TWS last weekend, and a few more on a drive I did some months ago were a bit defensive about the shoe moniker.

We'll find out if it's common, or if they're just prissy a$$es. HAHAHA!

I loved it. It's a huge country and you really have to drive it to really appreciate it. And I've only scratched the surface. I really hope to see some other parts of the country again soon. No speeding tickets and several hundred digital photos.

I put summer sport tires on the Honda before I left Boston. That was almost a disastrous decision, as I started climbing the Rockies, only to find cars coming in the opposite direction with snow on them! By the time I hit Yellowstone, there was a good inch of snow on the ground. There was one corner up in those mountain roads where I thought I was seriously going to lose it. Steering wheel and brakes, despite the ABS kicking like mad, did nothing. I looked at the guardrail in relief, thinking that at least I wouldn't go off the side of the mountain! The tires finally did bite enough to get around the turn, but that was a really close one.

Other than that, it was great. Everyone MUST do this at some point in their life. Really.
---

Glad you made it in one piece (without any tickets, too!).

Take it easy...
