This Superbowl Sunday (February 1st) Several of my buds and I will be hosting the 6th Annual Superbowl Fundraiser at Jillian's in Farmingdale, Long Island, NY. What started as a Volkswagen only event (a Superbowl morning cruise) in 1998 which drew 67 cars, the event has grown to more than 180 cars at Jones Beach or Wantagh State Park. We have opened up the marquees to include Bimmers (I drive an E24, I used to drive a 1997 GTi VR6), Acura's, Hondas, Subies, Audi (always invited by default), etc.

We normally hold raffles for Volkswagen and Audi parts, but that would obviously not interest everyone else, so we are trying to go with no raffle this year. In years past, the money raised from the sale of raffles went entirely to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. My 8 year old son, Nicholas, was diagnosed with this killer when he was 2 years old. It is an autoimmune disease, not a lifestyle disease characterized by being overweight, and inactive. (that is Type 2, and just to set the record straight, not all T2's are heavy and lead latant lifestyles). I digress. We will still try to collect donations for the JDRF, hoping that the generosity of all attendees will shine through brightly. I am on the Board of Directors of the Long Island Chapter, and will be helping to organize the SB GTG

At the events, we oogle other cars, chat with other owners, and just doink around, but all for a great cause. The research the JDRF is doing will help not only those with Type 1 (Juvenile) Diabetes, but those who suffer from Parkinson's, Alzheimers, some cancers, and even nerve injuries (like Christopher Reeves). $.86 of every dollar donated to the JDRF goes to research... it is a great organization.

This is the first time we are holding it at Jillian's. They have gratiously granted us the ok to hang in their parking lot (as well as at their bars and in their restaurants 8) ) starting at 10am and ending whenever people want to split. Actually, Jillian's opens at 11am, so we are in anytime after that for cocktails (in moderation of course...) and for use of their facilities, but our event starts at 10am.

This is not an official JDRF event, but all the proceeds will be donated to them.

If you are interested in attending or even helping, please contact me directly at: motten AT optonline DOT net .

Much thanks in advance!
