You still need to re-code the light switch control unit to activate the adaptive braking function when it will be approved and I think you can put on the outer LED ring via a signal sequence or similar so you actually don't need a separate wire for this function.

there are kits out there, aftermarket, that address the problem...

braking function since I've seen contradictory statements about the need for a separate wire in the harness. And I find it remarkably that there is no word about this in the retrofit installation instructions.

the new cars with the LEDs have the new wiring harness...that's why it won't work w/o a brilliant little aftermarket kit...

need a separate wire to activate the adaptive braking function if the LEDs have a built-in control unit. What bothers me is that BMW normally is very good at telling you what's not working and they haven't done that. So I guess we won't know for sure untill they release the software when it's approved.

You already have +12 and 0 to the LEDs so now you can use the normal brake light wire as a control signal wire to the LEDs if you re-code the light switch control unit and the LEDs have a built-in control unit. You get the idea?

I've talked to pacificbmw and they say it a wiring harness difference versus a software difference..

The kit is no longer in production, however, I am entertaining the idea to make another small production run. If anyone is interested in more information about this kit, how it works or when it may be available again stay tuned to this thread. Details will follow very soon.
