I drove smg tonight and loved it and will probably end up buying it. Do you all recomend buying the smg. I have to take my car over to see what they appraise it at tomorrow. My car is a 2002 silver/black pp, hk, xenon. The one im looking to trade it in on is a Black/black pp, cwp, hk, xenon, nav, smg. any expectations on what i should expect to trade for?

Thanks,
Scott

I have driven more SMG and manual cars then I can count. SMG is great, alot of fun and even better on the track then the six speed. That said, its not that much fun on the street. Sure its a cool option, but if you like shifting even a little....then its cool for the first few days, even months and then you will long for a manual car.

Just my own $0.02

sure ask Alex Levy. When I hit an offramp good and pull off 2 clean, fast shifts I feel good about myself. Who pats their smg on the back?

was a 6 speed purist.. once I drove SMG I never looked back.

I'm hoping all future BMWs come with SMG option -- I can't imagine anything else now :)

Great fun ... on the track, on the street, everywhere. In heavy traffic I put it into "A" mode and just relax and enjoy the sunshine and music ... what a great car!!!!'03 M3 Cab

But seriously, if you liked it go for it. SMG is great as long as long as you don't let it shift for you. The auto mode sucks big time.

Alex's problem was an isolated one and was truly regrettable. What's worse was how BMW treated him but that's another story.

Only problem is.. when i drive it to you.. mind the smell of the burning clutch.. Kinda hard not to burn it when you can only use 5th and 2nd on the highway :)

Yeah, you're right, Stone...this doesn't incite 6 speed guys to argue :)

3 SMG cars...3 owners that regret their decision, and all admitted being enthusiastic about it at first, but growing bored or dissatisfied over time.
