Friend from Aussie sent me these pics. Don't know if they've been posted before. According to the original email, it's some paint made with or code named "Mercury" that costs $5000 (USD?) per liter. Looks photoshoped to me, but what do I know...

Mercury is very toxic. They do look real though...amazing pics.

Also, I would think a car like that would blind other drivers during the day with reflected sunlight, so I doubt you'll see it on any street car in the U.S.

Those photos are from the official MB 2004 calendar, I think there's a link to buy it on their website. And just because the paint is called "Mercury" doesn't mean there's actual Mercury in it. In fact I'd imagine actually putting Mercury in paint would make it not dry or adhere to the metal.

You're correct that because it's in a calendar doesn't mean it's not retouched, in fact it's guaranteed retouched. No professional photo goes untouched from camera to print. But the point I was making is that the paint and car are real, they are not computer generated. At the California auto show they had a Jaguar just like that, it's just polished aluminum and shiny paint, it's not hard to do by any means. See the photo I took below. Or did I use my magic PhotoShop skills and somehow make it look that way? I wish.

It'd be easier and cheaper to paint the car than try to get someone to generate a computer model or worse yet generate that in PhotoShop. I use PS day and in day out for over 10 years and I guarantee you that insanely difficult to do in PS, it's not just some "touch up" job. I agree the cars look like they're from outta Gran Turismo cos they're so shiny, but that's kinda the point.

This photo looks real...but my comment at the time was with the original picture posted. I never said I didn't belive that type of paint was real. I just merely stated that from your comment on the original picture that images from a calendar doesn't gurantee it's authenticity.

Now if you had included this image originally, we probably would have not had this discussion. :)
