Not very familier with the C280 (I have a C230), but afaik, the check engine light is related to vehicle emissions. I had the same thing once and was resolved by replacing the MAF sensor.

Need more information on aux fan. When is it turning on and off, etc.

Faisal,
Thanks for the quick reply, Fan runs at idle off/on every couple
of minutes. Any suggestions are appreciated.

one and a half minutes at idle. I think the Aux. Fan symptom is normal.

However you can do this quick tests:

When your vehicle is stopped, with the A/C on, go around to the front of the car and look at the fan. You should see the aux fan running.

Then with the engine cool and not running, use a screwdriver inserted into the blades of the aux fan to rotate the blades. If they spin freely you should be ok.

Faisal,
From bad to worse. Cannot activate A.C. as EConomy switch will not disengage. Fans spin freely at cold engine but still off-on at frequent intervals. Is this dealer time? Many thanks for your help.

Go to Autozone and tell them you need to borrow the OBD II Scanner.
It's the only place that will lend it to you for free. It will tell you why the Check Engine light is on.

rather than the Aux. Fan as the AUX. Fan is behaving the way it should with A/C on. So my guess is that the computer is telling the fan to turn off and on the way it would as if the A/C is on.

Now unfortunately, this may be Dealer time as I don't really like to work on the A/C related problems. But do let them know of my diagnosis here so that they will not blindly go into replacing stuff.

Good luck and sorry I could not help more.
