Has anybody on this board ever attended an AMG Challenge event? I highly recommend it. This was my second one.

Last weekend at Homestead Speedway we got to drive everything from the SL55, the S55, the CLK55, the SLK55, the E55 to the 2005 C55 which will be in dealer's showrooms only this fall.

Open laps with professional race car drivers, autocross, evasive driving, skid pad, timed runs, we had a blast. Some 60 AMG cars were available, most had under 300 miles on their clocks.

While I missed my Z8 I walked away convinced that my current daily driver, a 2004 E55, is the best balanced car in the current AMG line up.

They had the 2005 Mercedes-Benz SLK55 AMG there?

Do you have pictures of your 04 E55 AMG?

What do you think of the new BMW 5 series?

Sorry, the SLK was a 2004 and the 32 AMG model.

As for BMW I have owned and driven the more interesting models over the past 20 years. Wonderful cars. And then came my 2002 745i. I tried very, very hard to get used to it and to love it for its positive features. Bottom line, it annoyed me to no end. No, I had no issues with the i-drive. This is the one thing I got used to very quickly and thought was quite neat. But it is NOT a driver's car at all. Always lounging in 6th gear, taking seemingly forever when you needed power, shift buttons on the steering wheel that allowed you to shift down one gear but not keep it there, or do up shifts. I could write a book. Nice back seat ride though if you have a chauffeur and if you don't mind getting little things fixed on a regular basis.

So I have decided not to buy another car that is hard on any of my senses. Therefore the new 5 and all other current BMWs are out of the question, no matter how much power they stuff under their hoods. O.k. the 3 series is still a wonderful car but not what I would be in the market for.

I had a 2001 S55 before the 745 and a 2003 CLK 55 right after it. The 2004 E55 is the best compromise for my current taste and needs. I absolutely love it. Got Sirius installed yesterday. Works great so long as you don't drive under bridges.

I'll post a few pics of the E55 shortly.
