I have a 1985 280ce grey market merc. It sat for two years. I got it running fine but now it stalls when you come to a stop in gear. If I put it in park it is fine. It is gas fuel inj and the settings are correct. Could it be the gas? I use 87 octane.

not gas quality , although you should splurge for higher octane gas than your using.

The stalling is likely from a out-of-wack fuel distributor /fuel pressure /air sensor plate adjustment. All require you reading a BOSCH fuel injection manual on this injection system, a fuel pressure gauge with shut-off valve, and an exhaust gas tester for Co/HC readings for correct adjustment. It's not shadetree possible to
repair this simple but technical system.

whats the history of this car ?
long time sitting ?
any prior repairs to fuel delivery system ?
how's cold start ? have a high idle during first 3 min. of warm up ?
how's gas mileage ?
how's HOT restarting ?
hows's power ?
COMPRESSION TEST READINGS ??
VALVE ADJUSTMENT LATELY ???
EGR SYSTEM OK & EGR VALVE NOT LEAKING ????
