I'm trying to replace the belt tensioner and belt dampener on a 1991 300E. The belt tensioner seems to be stripped. Turning the tensioner does nothing. Any hints? Do I need to pull just the water pump? Getting to the darn thing seems like it may be very difficult. Does the water pump only have the 2 bolts which are visible from the top? Any comments would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

down towards teh fron center of the engine..

A 24 inch 3/4 drive w/ a 2 inch extension

Gotta remove the fan shroud first to get to it..

Looosen it a few turns and the tensoiner falls back against the adjusting rod.. Ialso had to loosen the 13mm nut just above it.. don't know why.. but it helped..

When re-tightening, note the triangular scale and pointer to set the belt tension ,..... js
