When I see one, I wave or flash lights. Some wave back, most look at me like I'm driving backwards. Maybe it's an East Coast thing vs. a West Coast thing. Having lived most of my life in Calif. (Bay Area), people acknowledge others in like cars if they're unique. I've had Alfa's, MR2's and started out with a DKW (predecessor to the modern Audi). Everybody waves. Here in the mid-Atlantic, folks either can't be bothered with the riff-raff (Can't be a real M3 owner - They wouldn't behave like that), or there no sense of camraderie.

Oh well, if you see some fool waving at you, it may be me.

I'm an east coaster now living in CA, and I would have said the opposite! Drivers acknowledged each other more when I was back there. I see other M3 drivers routinely around here, and rarely does one even seem to look at me, nevermind do something overt like wave.

Maybe it's the times, not the location.

Maybe thats why people dont wave. But since so many different types of people own bmws i guess its not the same as in other makes.

You may be right. Too many other things on people's minds.

the front bumper, and the car has a wider stance due to the fenders... And yes, whenever I see another M3, I always give a quick flash of the brights and a thumbs-up too...

But Geetee, maybe its hard for you to distinguish since you don't even have an M3. So this post doesn't even pertain to you!!!

There are differences. But why dont you read my post CLOSER. I said as people are driving the m3 CAN resemble the run of the mill 325ci. Of course there are differences. If you are to insecure to admit the m3 IS a 3 series. im sorry I cant help you with that.

I get a response most times, but only occasionally does someone else initiate it.

When I had my S4, whenever I saw another one, 90% of the time there was some form of mutual acknowledgment. I assumed it would be the same with the M3 (both being enthusiast cars). However, in the year that I've had the M3, people here (Atlanta burbs) driving them look at me like I'm some sort of leper whenever I'd wave or honk, so I just quit.

I see one coming a half a mile away (unlike what another poster suggests). I do give a thumbs up and most of the time I get something back. I don't flick the lights because that will confuse the clueless.

The current M3 is so easy to spot / distinguish from a non-M.
