.. accelerating and shifting from first to second gear.

Does anybody experience the same subtle, short squeak? My MB tech insists it is the supercharger engaging and that there is nothing he can do about it.

He said I should hear it also when reving the engine up above 3,000 rpm at stand still. He rode with me around the dealership and heard this slipping noise when the autobox shifted from first to second. We could not duplicate this noise by just reving up the engine in parking position. So I still think it has to do with the clutch of the auto box and not with the super charger engaging.

Please let me know if you have likewise experience and how the issue was solved.

Thanks,

Christian.

I have a 2003 and have the same squeaky sound when the super charger engages. While its annoying I have just accepted it.

i am experiencing the same thing. when i slowly start to accelerate i hear that squeak. i took it into the shop adn they said it is indeed a worn clutch. they also said it is normal--i didnt know $80k cars normally squeak??!!! naturally i was upset and i am still looking for answers. they said if they replace it-the squeak will just come back and that it doesn hurt the vehicle. not sure what action i should take?? any other findings in your search with this problem?

to take it to your local MB dealer and ask their shop foreman to use some "lapping compound" between the "clutch" surfaces.

This "solution" is not approved by MB-USA but will appease all.

I have installed the Kleemann software upgrade and it will take care of the problem. My customer (04 E55) had same issues. The software keeps the kompressor clutch engaged all of the time. This is a side effect benefit to the increase in HP/TQ. The dealer does have a compound to remove the squeek for a while.
