I've been charged with buying new tires for my dads XJR, and want to get preformance all-season tires for it, since he can't be trusted to not drive it in the winter, but doesn't want to have to deal with snows.

It seems that there are more options if I can fit 275/40R18s on it instead of 255/40. Does anyone know if those will rub?

What year is the car? X350 XJR's come with 19's or 20's not 18's. Rim width is important. If you have an older ('03 or older) XJR, 275's are too wide for the stock rim. You should ask on the XJ8/XJR message board if you haven't already.
