Looking for all options in purchasing a replacement/rebuilt transmission for my recently purchased 77 300D. According the the buyers mechanic the problem is the front pump in the transmission? I've been driving the Mercedes for a couple of months with no problem except the transmission leaks after driving. I've received quotes up to $3,000 for a rebuilt with a very short guarantee. At my current transmission leak of 1 quart a week, I can buy an awful lot of transmission fluid. Any suggestions or recommendations.....Thank-You in advance....Joseph...

WELLLL. it's not that hard of a job - infact - pretty easy.

just romove the trans
and reseal the front pump . Really quite simple.

BUT, you should get underthere first and give it a good washing and drying , run it and relocate the fresh source of the leak before
pulling the trans .

resealing the front pump is a good beginner job - but - you need tall jack stands and good floor jack , or , a car lift .

I'll give it a try? The transmission shifts perfect except for the leak. According to a mechanic it shows to be a 13 hour job. Or at least that's is how many hours they want to charge in labor. Usually the labor hours are inflated. Hopefully I can get it done in a weekend. I will though have to get a completed breakdown of the transmission. Any suggestions on the type of manual would be best???
