I've been using the original equipment Michelin Pilot Sports on my 2003 M3 (18-inch wheels); good tires but they last only about 10,000 miles. I've now gone through 2 sets (20,500 miles) and need a new set.

Excellent tires - but expensive and limited life (tread wear rating of 220).

I thought about switching to Michelin Pilot Sport A/S; still very good tires (not quite as good as the Pilot Sports), but they have a tread wear rating of 400.

One problem with the A/S's is that they are available for the rear (225 40) but not the front (Micheline doesn't make the 225 45 size).

QUESTION: what experience and recommendations do some of you have for M3 tires?

Thanks very much
