Well, it's been a long while since I was last here. Not nearly as much traffic... here's hoping someone might have an idea.

On a lark, I popped in a cassette tape today, it toggled back and forth in direction. I've seen that before, I ejected the tape, and wound the reel to take up the slack.

Put tape back in, it did the same thing. Fast-forwarded to the end. Still doing the same thing, toggling back and forth between Side 1 and Side 2, even though it did seem to run out to the end.

Now when I hit Eject, nothing happens... continues to toggle Side 1, Side 2.

Of course this means no radio.

Any ideas? I may be able to pry it out with a screwdriver and needle-nose pliers, but until the player "knows" it's been ejected properly, the radio is not going to come back.

Thanks,

Theron

I know that 'best' is a subjective term, but I'm putting some 17" X 8" wheels on my 95 525i, and am interested in the collective
wisdom of the forum. I'm going with 235/45/17's and wanted to know which tire the board feels is best. Primarily interested in handling, of course, but I don't want something that's really noisy. My wife has ContiSportContacts on her 323i touring - and I think those are fine from a noise perspective. Here are the tires I'm considering, besides the SportContact:

Bridgestone S-04 Pole Position
Michelin Pilot Super Sport
Yokohama S-drive
Bridgestone Potenza RE-11

Thanks in advance for the advice!

I've scoured the internet including this forum and couldn't find what I needed. Here's my issue: I took my car into work and hooked it up to the gt1. I then deleted the "initialization lock" on the IR system. I was then able to initialized the key and successfully lock/unlock my car while simultaneously arming my alarm. This worked for one day. The next morning, I couldn't lock/unlock my car and I haven't been able to get it to work since.

Things I've done:

New batteries in the remote (prior to deleting the initialization lock)
Checked fuse for alarm
Checked fuse for IR system
Verified my key is putting out a signal
Checked the door/hood sensors, all okay

Any suggestions on what I could check?

After having the radiator replaced and fixing the straps on the gas tank, I'm kind of into saving some money.

I had my car cover on during the snow storms and while watching the strong winds blow, I noticed it was being held on by the rope that was tied underneath the car. I could tell it was caught on something. It was caught on the rusted heat shield.

I had looked up the cost of the shield a few days ago and it wasn't very expensive- ~$50. I figured replacing it was the best thing to do, right? Well, while looking for the part again today, I read a thread on a site that suggested removing it. I don't want to remove it, not that I'm worried about a fire, I just want it to be right, ya know!!

I think my mechanic will do it for a reasonable price. I will call the dealership to get their cost for replacing it, just to know. Their hourly rate is $140. My mechanic's rate is $80. I wish I could do it myself.

What do you think? It hasn't started rattling yet so it is not urgent. Does it protect the converter or does it only act as a heat shield for it?
