Re: Visiting from e39 board .... CAI question Ours goes right up to the grill next to a headlight and gets direct hit of cold air. I haven't look at an E39 but it could be lower. Kevin '91 M5

Actually, I was just noticing that on my 540 ... the intake seems to be picking up air from a nice "cold" location. Makes me wonder why so many late model BMW owners add an aftermarket CAI. Cheers! Re: Visiting from e39 board .... CAI question All BMWs have been factory equipped with a cold air intake since fuel injection was adopted over 20 years ago. Most aftermarket setups are inferior to the factory design, even on standard BMWs.
There "might" be a manufacturer that makes one.... but, and I stress BUT, it seems the general concensus that the e34 airbox is nearly perfect in its own right. Rob Levinson of UUC, has a 3.8l 95' Euro M5 touring, and he has researched this, and has come to the conclusion that the e34 M5 basically has about as much power as you can realistically get out of it already (without extensive tuning and work).

Visiting from e39 board .... CAI question A friend of mine says that nobody makes a CAI for his e34 M5. Is it true? Is the stock intake already perfect? I was suprised to see virtually no hits for CAI or "cold air intake" search here. Cheers!
