Fan Stuck Turns out the E36 fan was STUCK, like with my X5 two years ago. I removed the cover, spun the fan by hand, and dumped a can of WD-40 on it. All good now.

Good deal I was looking for an E36 one, and the ones on eBay were all like $99. Pelican had it for under $50. Cheap part, easy to replace on the X5.
Good deal
Re: Just ordered #3 from Pelican I jus ordered one on E-bay $38.00 free shipping
Re: Just ordered #3 from Pelican
Part is about $50 takes 15 min to install.
Just ordered #3 from Pelican The FSR went out on Hellrot. I've already replaced the one in Bostongruen and on the X5. That just leaves the M Roadster - or does that even have one, with manual climate control? You know the days of the three-speed fan were not so bad. You turned a switch (or lever) and selected Lo Medium or Hi and it activated the wiring in the fan itself. No final stage resistor packs with switching transistors and heat sinks. Simplicity itself. And they never wore out, it seemed. Does having 8 levels of fan speed really make a difference? If I set the temp on the driver's side at 80 and the passenger's side at 60, does it really create a 20 degree delta-T in the car? And why can't I drive this car with the windows up and the A/C off, even on a cool day, without the windows fogging up? Progress!

A common problem on all BMWs it seems. Welcome to the club. It is an easy fix, though. I've done two E36s and the E53. "They all do it" - if you own the car long enough. Cheap part, takes 20 minutes to replace.

Re: Fan Not Working thanks to you guys on here i have just replaced my final stage resistor and saved £000. i have a X5 2003 3L diesel. Fan just stopped working. All the functions on the A/C display showed it was ok but the fan wasnt working, what ever i did. Fuse was ok. I used the instructions on http://www.xoutpost.com/articles/x5/miscellaneous-x5/10139-final-stage-resistor-replacement.html and had the old one out in about 15 mins. it is a bit tricky but believe you can do it, it is not that hard. Bought a replacement from my local stratstone BMW garage and put the new one in. turned the ignition wondered if after 15mins and £70 it (surely couldnt work?) but the fan kicked into action - brillant. Wife and I danced...

I sure did.
Re: It's the Final Stage Resistor. Thanks...I didn't know about the X5 World website...it's great!

Re: It's the Final Stage Resistor. Go to X Five World front page, using number, not "five", scroll down to #8 under Misc Section, click, and read. The RoadFly czars seem to block X Five World, lol! Re: It's the Final Stage Resistor. Thanks, I been reading other BMW forums and it seems like it is happening to too many of their models. The symptoms are all pointing to the Final Stage Resistor. I scheduled an appointment to take my car to BMW service, do you think my regular mechanic could fix this or should I keep my appointment?
Re: Just had this fixed on my 2001 4.4 today Did you have it repaired by BMW?
Re: Just had this fixed on my 2001 4.4 today
Just had this fixed on my 2001 4.4 today It cost about 200.00 parts/labor. At least they cleaned the wheels of brake dust!

Fan Not Working I have a 2002 3.0 and all the sudden the fan stopped blowing. It figures, that it's right after the warranty expires. The climate control unit displays everything and the fan speed dial shows that the fan should be blowing and it is not. Has anyone had this problem before? Is it possible that it is simply replacing a blown fuse?
