    Re: M5 at home

Good choice of color! Just got mine seven days ago, Black Sapphire Metallic. Like other owners, I can't wait to complete the 1200 miles break-in.
'06 M5, Black Sapphire Metallic, Sepang Bronze Extended Leather, SMG, Heads-up Display, Premium Sound
'05 Silver Gray Metallic 645ci, Hamman Aerodinamic Mods, M6 Wheels, Brembo Grand Turismo brakes
    '05 Titanium Silver Metallic 545i
    '04 Titanium Gray Metallic 745Li
    '03 325i Dinan
'05 Black SLK 350 (black sheep of the family)

    2000 550 6 speed

If you like spinning tires through 4th gear, crazy torque and a sound that cannot be duplicated (12 cylinder with Tubi exhaust) you will love it. If you like technology, you won't. It is an awesome engine with a leather seat attached. Stereo sucks. No fun electronics of any type. Really fun to drive really hard and fast but a real drag if you have to drive around within legal limits (which I don't very often - advantage of Texas county roads).

M5 is only 0.1 sec slower 0-60 (and I am not in the forbidden mode yet as I am still in break-in) and a four door with every gadget you can imagine. Not as nimble but not bad at all. The Ferrari is raw, brutal power. The M5 is technological magic power. Different approach. Same outcome. Really damn FAST!

same motor, hp might be a couple diff...

due to tuning. 550 is a two-seater, 456 is a 2+2 and much more conservatively styled. i personally like it better than the 550 but it's a very subjective thing. the cost difference is very real though.

Yes I have, really!!, same exact motor and HP?

So what is the major contrast between a 456GT and a 550 Maranello?

    have you considered a 456?

same motor but great bargains to be had out there. i talked to someone who got an absolutely mint 6-speed with 5K miles for $75K (the car stickered at $225K 5 years earlier).

The Ferrari is beautiful, been thinking of......

getting one. Could you give me a description of it. I dont really know of anyone whos owned one.

Im thinking about an '01 550 in manual.

How is it over all, also maybe compared to the M5?

    Thanks for any insight

    M5 at home

Here is my automobile family - excluding our truck which doesn't fit in I am afraid.

    2006 BMW M5
2000 Ferrari 550 (soon to be on the market)
    2006 BMW 330i

I am happy to say the M5 is now my everyday drive and I am excited to be a part of the M5 group. One hell of a fun car.
