    Still available new...

Expensive, but worth it if the car is in good shape.

Above the bell housing there is an extension of engine block where flywheel sits. Or find timing pointer behind starter and look up on top of engine block between cylinder head and bell housing. This car definitely began life as a 3.0 Litre. The serial# on block will tell you if it is now 2.8L or 3.0L.

    Re: Ive just bought a 75 BMW E3 3.0 L automatic

Thank you very much, but the guy at BMW n Madrid, told me the car was a 2.8 which part of the block is the engina number?

Today I received a call from Jess a friend of mine who is also restoring a Maserati and a Porsche. He told me about a 1980 633csi and a 70s4 door 2000Tilux.....maybe I can buy the 633CSI engine and 5speed dogleg gearbox so I can switch it until I rebuild completely the 3.0L engine (It burns some oil)....the 633CSI has 103.000kms,thats less than 60.000miles, sports manual dogleg gearbox, and the owner doesnt want the car anymore.....but then I wouldnt know how to tune the electrics and injection to the 3.0L / conversion to a 3.3L sports manual!!!!!

Hola It looks like it is a 3.0 Longwheelbase. Originally came with a 3.0 Litre- look on upper cylinder block behind back of cylinder head for serial number of engine- if it matches car VIN # its still a 3.0L engine. They may have reported it as 2.8L to save on taxes. Looks like a nice car. Regular wheelbase 3.0 Saloons were 3.0S. Your car has more leg room in back seat. My serial # charts only go to 1971. 2.8 Litres VIN's start with 28*****. 3.0 Litres VIN's start with 30*****.

    Ive just bought a 75 BMW E3 3.0 L automatic

Ive just bought a friends 3.0 L automatic. The car , type 6103, was bought in Germany on 6/1975, then it came to Spain with diplomatic plates and in 4/1978 the car was registered with spanish plates, and has been ever since in the same family. A few weeks ago an old school friend rang me and told me his father wanted to sell the car. I instantly remembered the car in which they dropped him and his brother dayly at school....the onl things I could remember were that the car was navy blue with beige hide interior and multispoke bmw alloys.
The car has been drived frequently without any long storage time and has always been dry garaged.
All the paperwork, homologations from 1978 say the car is a 3.0 L, and also the badges in the boot lid and the plate in the engine bay.....

........but the MOT technical papers also talk about a 6 cilinder 86mm x 80mm and at BMW they say its type 6103, and that is a 2.8 L automatic and not a 3.0 L, can somebody explain me this?

The car has the usual refinements such as power steering, air coditioning, electric sunroof, 4 electric windows, headlamp washers, electric mirror, rear headrests, front and rear armrests, rear curtains, wood inserts, 4 seatbelts, deluxe toolkit, Blaupunkt stereo cassette recorder, Bmw alloys including the spare one with a original Michelin XWX.

Here is a picture of the car "as bought".

Last week I took the car to our home at the countryside, 400kms away from Madrid, where Im going to store it until I finish my E24 635CSI and my old Mini Cooper.

Also Im thinking on buying a E3 2500 Manual for spares. The car is complete and has minor rust, but has a complete black vinyl interior, air conditioning, and 4 nice chrome hubcaps.....and i shall begin thinking how to tow it to the countryside.
