I would look at the tag on the alternator in your car and ask for the exact same part number as a replacement. I don't have any knowledge of the rebuilders, just get one with a national warranty.

Will ANY unit I find work just fine or should I REALLY stick to a BMW brand name? Advanced Auto Parts has one made by Worldwide but they said it was an exact fit. Regards, Michael

I wouldn't head out on a 1000 mile trip with your current alternator. I'd replace it before you leave. Most any auto electrical shop should be able to get you a rebuilt in a couple of days.

Battery idiot light is on with key out / car off Well this is a new one on me... getting out of the car and notice the red battery light is still lit on the dash. Is this a "normal" indication of something wrong (or an abnormal one;-) Any help is appreciated. It has been on for at least an hour now Michael
