oh I see what pic you were referring to now Yes this shot was for the cameraman. A bimmer rag is doing a story on t eh rebuilt process and he wanted to show how little wear there was on the camshalfs. Yes they were completley convered in cam lube after the pic was taken. This German machanic (accent and all) has rebuilt over 13 S38s since 2001 and oldest one at at 100k on its clock. I trust him completely

Assembly Lube would of been good, Your mechanic should be tarred and Feathered!
Assembly Lube would of been good,
same hook is on my car and every picture I have of other M5's I think it is stock..
same hook is on my car and every picture I have
i mean there is supposed to be lube.. assembling it dry is a no no.. but oh well it was running today so any damage is already done.. Maybe it is fine, but I would have expected to see some signs of lube on a new motor.....
i mean there is supposed to be lube..
hook I removed mine years ago and forgot where I stuck it. I think the one in the pic is what my mechanic had, probably for another type of BMW engine. Good eye, I will ask him where he go it.
hook
Re: is that fully assembled -- cams? hhhmmm not sure if which pic you are referring too. If it's the one with brown liquid,,,,that is oil before disasslembly.
Re: is that fully assembled -- cams?
is that fully assembled -- cams? I keep hearing about "generous coating of assembly lube..." on most engine building TV shows..is it there in the cam journals and lobes?
is that fully assembled -- cams?
Re: more pics of new engine Forgive my ignorance, but is that front lifting hook stock? If not, where are you bolting to? thanks, LouH M5 with motor out, no front lifting hook

Re: orange colored plug wires Thanks Bob, I actually have red Beru plugs already. Put them on and they are a little lghter in color, almost orange compared to the Ferrari Rosso color of the valve cover. I may switch back to black. I'll post pics soon and get opinions???
Re: orange colored plug wires
Ahhh, you're breaking my heart> MAN that looks sweet. When I first saw your red valve cover, I questioned how that would look, but it looks AWESOME in the car. Get some red plug wires to go with it. Some day I will be back in the fold. Bob K.88 ///M5, RIP
