    was thinking the same, it's cold up here this year

    figured maybe some noisture in system, didn't seem to be like this in the fall

    Since it's been sitting for awhile, I would also suspect a sticky clutch master and/or slave cylinder. Brakes and clutch are all fed from the same reservoir so you will want to flush and bleed them all together. Make sure you use a DOT4 fluid for replacement.

    thanks for the info. Car is stock except for a Turner Chip, K&N filter, and a few e28 535 suspension mods. I'll check the things you mentioned and let you know. Thanks

    Like all other standard manual transmission equipped cars, the tranny gears functioning is completely separate from the clutch function. So if you feel like there is slipping, that is, when you are fully engaged in a gear and the engine rpm can rise or lower without speeding or slowing the car's speed in MPH, then you more than likely have a worn clutch plate.

    I would say that the clutch engaging "late when releasing pedal" would be a completely separate problem. It is possible that your clutch mounting bracket a.k.a. "Pedal Box" could be broken. It is the bracket that holds your foot pedals together. It has happened to me and many others with this car. It is a easy/medium difficulty repair. Take a look at the thread further down this page titled "Pedal Box R&R".

    Another possibility with your late engaging clutch could be a broken clutch release fork lever. It is item #3 in the link below. This has happened to my car too and unfortunately you will only find out by removing the tranny and taking a look. Good news is that if necessary you can also replace your clutch disk at the same time. I'd recommend first looking at the Pedal Box and make sure it is in good shape. If it is then you might be looking at a tranny removal in the future.

    I don't know anything about modding or upgrades; I like to keep my car as stock as I can bear it.

    trans slipping in 3rd, 4th, 5th

    Took the car out for a run yesterday, have not been driving it much this winter, less than 300 kilometers since october. Found the trans slipping a bit in higher gears, clutch feels a bit different, engages real late when releasing pedal. Car only has 63000 miles on it, not noises or sounds, running well other wise. Any thoughts on what problem is, could it be a fluid problem or actual clutch problem. Going to try to bleed system today, no drips anywhere. My other 528e had 300,000 km and wtill original clutch. Current car is a 1986 528e, also, anyone out there have any suggestions for upgrades if I do end up needing a clutch.
