Re: Do you remember if you I only used the ZHP knob for a day, and it was awhile ago, but my memory is that while it have shorter throws it still felt similar to the stock knob in terms of "notchiness". The WSM almost completely eliminated the notchiness (because of the increased mass). I read lots of reviews and was still skeptical that the WSM could make a big difference. But using it has convinced me -- it's definitely worthwhile. $150 is not trivial, but I believe Doug offers a money back guarantee. LeatherZ, where I bought my ZHP knob, only offered store credit.

I use a Momo leather shift knob The "Anatomico" model. I like it a lot. I'm using the Momo "Cobra" model in the Roadster. Carbon fiber and chrome there. That one is really nice too. '02 Z3 Coupe 3.0i [Hellröt II - Walnuß] '03 X5 3.0i [GrauGrün - Beige] '01 Z3 Roadster 3.0i [AlpenWeiß - TraumRöt]

Definitely shorter throws... Shortening the overall height of the knob by 1 1/8" makes for a much shorter throw. A heavy knob might seem to require more effort, but the benefit of the smoothness that results from the added mass will most likely take your mind off of that very quickly. :-)
Definitely shorter throws...
Do you remember if you notice shorter throws? any added shift effort with either one?
Do you remember if you
Maybe, but... ...my memory is it didn't feel a whole lot different from the stock knob. I exchanged the one I bought for an intermittent wiper module.
Maybe, but...
Re: I like the Whalen Shift Machine better it was my understanding that the ZHP is 3/4 inch shorter than stock and weighted too.
Re: I like the Whalen Shift Machine better
I like the Whalen Shift Machine better The ZHP knob was too similar to the stock knob, IIRC. I wanted something shorter. The WSM also improves shifter action due to the increased mass.
