Norman,I need your help reg. the AT cooling hoses

Could you let me know please on how AT oil cooler hoses are installed. Is the top hose off of radiator goes to the bottom of the AT oil pan? Is the lower hose off of the radiator goes into the top of or above the lower hose into AT housing/oil pan. I appreciate your help. I was rebuilding the hoses and did not mark how they are plugged in. Now schematic or repair manual explains how they are connected. I use aftermarket hose with original metal tubing. OEM hoses can be only installed one way, but in my case I can go ether way and don't want to go the wrong way. Please, help.

so you have the 5hp30. Welcome to the madness.
Many things can go wrong, if you do a search on this site you will discover a trove of problems and fixes.
Step 1 as shogun said is to find an independent who will do a diagnostic to read the codes.
From our experience, the dealer could not do squat.... they claim that the trany chip was too old (this is a 94 740 as well) and swapped a new chip.... but even w the new chip they could not find anything. Our independent ran the diagnostic and found a few defective solenoids.... and I pass on the rest of the story..... good for nite time cigars and liquors around a fireplace.

Your best choice it to contact Kirt at http://www.autosportsunlimited.com/

Of course you need an independant mechanic that loves BMW.....

They have whole rebuilt trany for around $2200, you have the refurbished valve body which is more likely to be your problem, we had the same issue at 68Kmiles, then some solenoid... but now it shift superbly well for the last 10K and 2 years. But it was a real challenge to tell the independant what we wanted.

my trans works 20 years now

and shifts smooth. I only replaced the seals on input/output and gear lever, changed the oil, filter and that is all.
Call the tranny service which made the job.
Checked to fluid level properly as per instructions?
A dealer can make a DIS readout and it could give some clue.

Re: HELP! '94 740il new tran. problems

Also, isn't a second tran. overhaul in a period of 3 yrs. excessive? Although Cottman's prob. isn't the best fix for BMW tran. rebuilds, I can't help but think the diagnosis to replace the whole tran. might have been premature considering the ample amt. of possibilities involved with the symptoms noted in my previous post?
Please let me know your thoughts...

Re: HELP! '94 740il new tran. problems

After it warms up it seems to shift smoothly, I just had the tran oil cooler replaced (prev. was bent) all fluid topped (again), is there anything that the mechanic could have overlooked when replacing the tran or could it be a faulty tran (used, under 80k 6 mo. warranty)? Valve body/filter/hose/pressure etc. are assumed to be diagnosed upon completion of a new tran install right?
    Thanks for all the help
