^^This is a legit question^^ First time someone asked me this I figured they were making stuff up. This being April 1st and all I, thought that I would second the question. This part is one of the connection points, and on earlier M3's was prone to failure.

Not sure if this applies on E46 On E36, the most common cause of this is a differential bolt that keeps the diff from rotating about the axis of the rear wheels. Looking along the drive shaft, it is on the lower left - again, this is on E36, but I'd guess there is a similar setup for E46. Have you noticed a bit of a clunk during take-off before the bigger noise you hear now? bolt loosens, then falls out or breaks on E36s. Not a bad fix but you have to order the bolt. Let us know what you find. ADS

driveshaft banging somewere in da middle on gas Got a banging sound on acceleration, just behind the shifter...guess this is were the driveshaft has a bushing joint...or something. Dont think its the diff. whats the prognosis and way to fix it if I ramp it at home, and pluck the shaft out, also what parts do I need. thanks Hamish
