I believe the standard radio is 1400 watts and the premium radio with DSP is 2200 watts
The premium set up has 12 speakers.

You really don't have many options when replacing the rear deck speakers other than 1. Buy factory rear subs and put them in yourself not hard to do. The speakers from BMW are about $125 each. It is extremely difficult to find aftermarket speakers that are the exact dimensions, wattage, and ohms. 5.25" across 2 7/8 deep, 8ohms and I cant remember the watts. 2. Buy a sub to place in the trunk with an amp. My opinion is go with the sub and amp in the back. I've tried buying after market subs to place in the rear deck. They were supposedly Rockford Fosgates $18 each from Ebay.... They sounded like [Oops!]! I thought I could get away with using a 4ohm speaker and the lows were just not low enough. In addition to that I made some modifications to the rear deck piece that holds the speakers to make them fit....very time consuming and it just didn't sound good at all. So I decided to open up the rear arm rest and place a 12 inch square MDX subwoofer in the trunk as well as a Kenwood amp. It sounds phenomenal. As a previous poster said the Hi's and Mids in the 7 are excellent. The Stock amp pushes those. It sounds like a lot of boom...but you can adjust and tune the amps and as long as you have the settings right its not an obnoxious rattling bass.

    Smokin?
You don't know me! or what my experience is with audio reproduction.
I know you can read, but I wonder if you can still hear.

The Premium Sound System was designed for audio reproduction fidelity.
For that the system is one of the finest systems ever installed in a vehicle.

What you describe is 100dBs of SPL with +20dB boosted bass. Not all of the music loving population cares for the door rattling thumping of the over boosted bass. Nor do they want to damaging their hearing.

Enjoy your ears before you have a significant hearing loss from the bass.Rod...

    Rear deck speakers

How many speakers/subwoofers on the rear deck of a 97 740iL? One side appears to be blown. I have been told by a dealer that there are two per side? If I didn't want to use the factory speakers, what are my options just for the rear deck? I'm not interested currently in replacing all of the speakers like BSW recommends.
