I understand they do o.k., i will hit it with a mallett and see what happens. can these be bypassed? i.e. can i take the converter off? it is legal where i live and i do not have to take emissions tests. i prefer a bigger pipe without the converter, is this possible on the 735i? i know the o2 sensor is on the pipe.....

Maybe your converter fried. I understand they do break up when they are old and go bad. Hit it with a mallet and see if it rattles.

rattling sound under car i have an 87 735i euro 5 speed. i have been hearing a rattling sound, and thought it was a loose part of muffler. but, i got under the car last night, and it sounded like it was coming for the catalytic converter. Anyone ever hear of this? no metal under there appeared to be loose. almost sounds like rocks rattling around in metal. thanks.
