Re: ENGINE, DSC, ABS, BRAKE LIGHT

Hey guys if your driving the X5 and your losing power and all your lights are coming on and the engine is losing power, 95% chance your alternator is bad, now here is a little advice because I am going through this DO NOT BUY A NEW ALTERNATOR, Remove your old one and have it rebuilt so the pulley fits on identically to before, I tried buying a new one on 3.0i and altenator was the same brand and model 120Amp Valeo but the pulley I removed from my old one(since there is no pulley included in the new one)I bolted it on and it stuck out about 1/4inch and the belt just spun off when I installed everything. it should cost you about $140 to get your old rebuilt like new. Alternators should avg. about 100K miles until the bushings wear out. Make sure the pulley fits exactly like it did when you pulled it off even a tiny bit off and its no good. I am also documenting how to replace alternator on the 3.0i engine if anyones interested let me know I can walk you through it, its a [Oops!]!!!but not impossible and it will save you about 2hrs of labor at $95 to $120/hour.

Re: EML, DSC, ABS, BRAKE LIGHT

Have a 2001 X-5 4.4. While driving from Ohio to Atlanta, the DSC, ABS, and BRAKE LIGHT all came on "yellow". The manual said to continue driving carefully. When I got home, i move the car to put it in the garage. The brake pedal felt funny and I heard a god awful sound - like the entire brake system had come loose and was rattling around inside the front right wheel well...Any ideas?

    Hi,
    I solved problem.
I had installed "Gas Saving Kit" from ebay, which was installed after air filter, before air sensor .
    This was causing problem.
SO : Dont buy such kit if you dont need problems

Re: EML, DSC, ABS, BRAKE LIGHT

sure, i'll help you as i can.
i dont think there is some difference between hot and cold days.
i just asked your techicience and he told me that the problem may be the battery. can you check your battery, because some times there is smaller battery in the car, then there used to be, and it can cause problems to your car, and block some electrical activity.

for the head lights, i think you should go to BMW service, because of xenon lights can't be replaced without a prof.

post a message if that helps

All those are signs that you have an electrical

problem. The main electronic gateway is called an R-Bus--if it gets a bad signal sent to it certain components will show they are not working on the dash.

Re: EML, DSC, ABS, BRAKE LIGHT

    Hi,
I chacked secondary tire, but no moisture . I will drive without sec-tire and radio.
I am 90% sure that it happens in hot dayes.
I red in forums that similar problem caused by wiring harness, ignition-coils,etc.. but BMW service sad its may-be idle-controler. I dont trust, they are not professionals.
Do you know other thinks may cause this?
About head light: when I fall in hole , my xenons are just little blink and left side-lamp does not function properly(had no time to chack).
I hope you can help me.

Re: EML, DSC, ABS, BRAKE LIGHT

    hello,
if your car has that problems only on city drive, problem can be the way you drive it.you know that BMW is very specific car. my advise is to give your car for 2-3 days to somebody(your friend, father or ....) and see if the problem will occure again. i had the experience that it stoped alarming afterwards.
    2.
it causes a lot of problem to BMW X5 to import by sea. maybe it's realy because of that. so i advise you: remove your secondary tire from the boot. cause under the secondary tire may be moisture (and you can't see it) so leave or drive without it for several days. and avoid to switch on your radio system approximetly for 1week.

don't hasitate if you have other questions, i'll try my best to halp you.

    Hi,
You know I imported this car from USA to Europe(Georgia Rep) by see.
May be this cause a problem ?
Problem occure when driving in city , in highway no problem.
I think problem is occuring in hot weather.

Re: EML, DSC, ABS, BRAKE LIGHT

    my dear friend:
first of all, have you been to the sea side since this problem occured to your car?
i'd like t tell you that mostly every X5 has this problem due to climat on the sea side and according to humidity.
if no, then you must chek your sitting sistems (chairs). they have problems with electricity and our technical engeneers say that when you replace chair electricity system the EML, DSC, ABS, BRAKE LIGHT starts to light on permanently.
first of all to avoid spending lot of money without any sence, try this:
1.remove the item that is over your back chair (i mean where you put head while driving)
2.look if any head light does not function properly
    3. and the most important thing - maybe you upgraded your audio system? if yes so it means that its'not connected properly. go to electritian in this case.
