do all M3 auto-dimming mirror's leak? what is the average life of these things? I'd like to put some kind of protective cover underneath it to catch it's nasty liquid before it hits the dash/console. em3

Mine leaked too I looked down and wondered who spilled a Coke on the console -- little tan droplets. Luckily I was under extended warranty, so the $tealer handled it, in due time, as they had to order the mirror (Steve Thomas, Camarillo, CA)

I replaced mine 3 months ago. I think the only mirror that might be a problem to replace is the one with the built in compass (I don't think it was offered on US M3's anyway, but I could be wrong). I was able to find a decent DIY for the removal after a little searching. Basically you just remove the plastic housing around the mounting arm, unplug the wires, push on the mirror, and it pops off the window. Putting it back on, you need to turn it ~30degrees, place over the window mount, and turn it back to center and it will click back into place. Plug it all back in and snap on the plastic part and you are good to go. Cost ~$100.

I'm going to follow the lead - questions: Any chance the guy who said it doesn't work anymore is right, i.e., Magnadon and the RMA place don't offer this anymore? Anyone do this recently? And two, how do you remove the mirror, i.e., is there a DIY anywhere like the old madrussian site? Thanks as always to the roadfly guys!

Apparently under $100 if you go through company that makes the mirror: http://bimmer.roadfly.com/bmw/forums...8901430-1.html http://bimmer.roadfly.com/bmw/forums...9325252-3.html

my rearview mirror is melting :) Well it looks like it is... This started a few days ago. It looks like the either a liquid got into the layer where the light-sensitive material that dims at night is located OR the material itself is leaking some way, Anyone have this problem? Anyone replace they're DYI style? Where can I get a replacement mirror, i.e., not a dealer - at this point. Thanks in advance. Allen
