It's a little further back than your passenger sits, and 100lbs. is also not enough to make a difference for traction. So as the weight you may add gets meaningful enough for traction, it also becomes a liability for handling. Best to not sanction it and not do it.
It's a little further back than your passenger
100 lbs is not going to make the car... "uncontrollable oversteer". Come on. That's less than having a passenger in the back.

No weight! It will upset the natural balance the car already has. I have 4 Conti snows on smaller 16" rims and my car is an animal in the snow just as good of better than my wife's Subaru Outback. The car is perfectly balanced and predictable. Rear weight bias isn't healthy in the slippery stuff. \\My .02 04 E46 325i Sport,Manual,Silver Grey/Black leather.my car 90 Mazda Miata 90k original Red with Black........toy car 01 Subaru Outback LL bean edition h6...........wife's car past BMW's: . 88 735i e32 Black/Tan...93 325i e36 manual Electric Red/Black *my first NEW BMW!...00 528i e39 sport, manual Electric Red/Black
No weight! It will upset the natural balance
And overloading the rear end of the car hangs too much weight out back. Get into the wrong circumstances and you'll end up with uncontrollable oversteer which may throw you and your car off the road. Unless you have an xi, our cars are not great snow vehicles. Front wheel drive or AWD is what you seek.
And overloading the rear end of the car
Agree-just like you wearing proper shoes in the sn snow, the BMRer needs the same--4 snow tires a must.

SNOW = where the RUBBER MEETS THE ROAD the TIRE DESIGN is the most important key to traction adding weight can upset the cars already near perfect balance. the driver is the second next most important factor (4)snow tires for WINTER driving are a MUST

Re: SNOW-snow--Do you add weight in trunk:Yes/No # With snow tires in all corners it's not necessary, but it won't hurt to have an extra 100 lbs between the rear shock towers (if you have no passengers).

SNOW-snow--Do you add weight in trunk:Yes/No # I use to put extra weight in the trunk of my E30 but never did that on my E46. I have all wheels snow tires. Just never tought about it. With the snow this week of 11 inches, I am not sure why I never thought of doing this on my E46 when I did it on prior cars. Do you add weights (sand/rocks) and how much weight? PS--no responses from Texas needed.
