Re: Tyrone..BMW's official response, we can't help U(m Unfortunate, seeing as they've done in the past with good results. Don't worry about it. Still a few more things to try.
Re: Tyrone..BMW's official response, we can't help U(m
Tyrone..BMW's official response, we can't help U(m We will not change vehicle coding. They have no idea why my SA was missing a few digits. So it looks like all of us with M62tu engines with 6 speed trannys and an M5 diff (or you guys that stuck in a peg leg 3.15 diff) will have cruise controls that likes to drop out from time to time.
Tyrone..BMW's official response, we can't help U(m
Tyrone, so how do I get them to do this? What equipment is needed ... that they likely have or should have being a fairly large BMW dealer in the Houston area?

I'll ask about that too "Drive It Like You Stole It, A Sickness for Quickness" The Bottle Rocket "King of Spray" 2 Stage Nitrous Oxide Dare to be different and stand out among the crowd of me-to-cars! I'll ask about that too
Re: Jim, did you take yours in? Ah, didn't know about that. I was actually referring to the odd case of missing digits in your SA line. Go figure that some rare thing like that had to appear once we FINALLY find someone to try the coding change!
Re: Jim, did you take yours in?
Re: Jim, did you take yours in? When they scanned my car they found nothing related to the Fail Safe Engine Program. I've driven it about 2000 miles since then with no issues. I stopped at BMW about 9 days ago to see if the tech found out anything from whoever he was going to ask for assistance from. He was tied up on the phone, I never got a chance to speak with him. I'll drop in again before the holidays to see if he has any good news.
Re: Jim, did you take yours in? Looks like the typical easy way out. I would have tried this long ago, but hard to do without a car. Of course there had to be an obscure situation akin to a genetic defect involving Jim's car, which has thrown a wrench in his plans also. Hopefully that will be resolved soon.
Jim, did you take yours in? My favorite dealer in Houston said this ... "We do not have the ability to perform this coding as listed below. I contacted my BMW RTE for information. He also stated we cannot perform this." Cheers! Robert '99 540i sport, 6 spd (prod 10/98) Click here for Mod List I am a BMW Car Club of America member, are you?

No progress yet, BMW Gallery is going to (m) send in a "Puma" report to BMW to ask for assistance. (anyone know what Puma stands for?) They said that if we end up at a brick wall I should go to Will Turners shop and talk to them about doing the recoding as they have much more experience doing non standard things like this. The tech thinks he should have some feedback in a few days, but with Thanksgiving this week it will probably be next week. Tyrone has also been helping out. He did scan my DME and said the adaptation values were kind of high so he reset them back to zero. That did make it a bit more peppy, when I left 2nd and 3rd gear chirped the tires and I really wasn't trying to do it.....so I had to do it a few more times just to make sure it wasn't a quirk.
No progress yet, BMW Gallery is going to (m)

Will do, I'm thinking about bringing my car into ( my local dealer and have them connect it to their big buck computer to see if they can pull up any info on my random Failsafe Engine Program error that likes to pop up every 2 years or so. I printed Tyrone's post and will bring it with me. I will probably do this next week.

Re: Is it this one? I googled "site:http://bimmer.roadfly.com/bmw/forums/e39/ Tyrone cruise" and looked through the results until I found something like what you describe.
Re: Is it this one?
Hey Jim, I'm going to try this in about 2 weeks if I can get it scheduled over Thanksgiving weekend. If you get a chance to try it sooner, let me know? Cheers! Robert '99 540i sport, 6 spd (prod 10/98) Click here for Mod List I am a BMW Car Club of America member, are you?

Re: Is it this one? That's it; Thanks!! How did you find that? I searched ... but for some reason all of my searches turn up posts no newer than about 2008. Cheers! Robert '99 540i sport, 6 spd (prod 10/98) Click here for Mod List I am a BMW Car Club of America member, are you?
