Re: Buy an OEM sensor, with a BMW logo. Well I bought OES (S=supplier) CPS. You could see where they melted away the BMW logo from the CPS housing. It's been two weeks and no CEL! I guess it was the CPS.

If the vano's... If it is the vano and I just ignore the issue, besides losing power will this leave me stranded? I'll replace the CPS for now, I just want to make sure the Vano code won't leave me broken down. Again at this point car runs just fine for 160,000 miles.

Re: Both codes point to the cam position sensor>> Interesting! I'm going spring for a new CPS (again)and hope that's the issue.

Re: Both codes point to the cam position sensor>> I too have a 98 528i that is throwing those 2 codes. P1519 = "A" Camshaft Position Actuator Bank 1. The Vanos actuator. I also have a 97 M3 and have swapped the CPS and actuator from it to the 528i and vice versa. Intermittant on 528i and no issues on M3. Been wrestling with this for months. Finally bought a used Vanos and actuator from a junkyard, but have not swapped yet. Everyone says to get a new CPS, but I'm not convined that is the solution. May be cam timing or a Vanos issue. Re: Both codes point to the cam position sensor>> Hi Ed, Yes, I bought the CPS from Crevier in 2007 ~(April).
Both codes point to the cam position sensor>> Did you buy the CPS from a BMW dealer? Might also check the connector to make sure it's clean. Ed in San Jose. BMW CCA member since 1987 (Nr. 62319). Golden Gate Chapter. '97 540i 6 speed. Build Date 3/97. Aspensilber over Aubergine leather.

Check engine light on and is throwing 2 codes... I have a 98 528. Two days ago the check engine light came on. I was hoping it was a gas cap issue. After a few starts the light went off. Yesterday the light came back on again. 3 years ago I had the same issue and it was the Cam Position Sensor which I changed and fixed the issue of the engine light. Today I went to auto zone and had the codes checked: I had the P0340 code twice and P1519 once. This issue is that I'm not sure if the P0340 is old or new? Could the Cam Position Sensor be going bad after 3 years? Or is the P0340 an old code and now it's the P1519 code causing the issue. I'm not sure if I cleared the codes 3 years ago. I would hate to buy a new CPS if I don't need it. Now I have no idea what the P1519 is and how to fix. Any advice here? The car runs like a champ. Plenty of power and runs smooth. I would hate it to be the CPS and get stranded.
