Is it Castrol Edge 0W-40?... I tried to find it on the Castrol Canada site, but it wasn't there. I was, however, able to find the following data sheet from the Castrol Australia site... Link: Castrol Edge 0W-40 Data Sheet - Australia Interesting that your local Walmart stocks it...I guess Walmart makes their own rules...LOL. Merry Christmas! At Walmart of all places! Yes I'm in Toronto Canada. My local Walmart sells it in 1 litre and 5 litre bottles. Not cheap but I'll be buying a stash. Merry Christmas

To my knowledge, Castrol 0W-40 is not available... in North America...the link was to the BMW NA Site, so that's probably why there is no mention of it there. Mike, I'm assuming by your IP that you're in Canada...can you get Castrol 0W-40 there? I have not seen it here in the U.S. As far as I know, Castrol 0W-30 (AKA German Castrol) is the only one they sell here that meets the BMW LL-01 Spec. Re: Mobile 1 0w40 sale I have been running Mobil 1 0w40 in my m52 528i (97 5spd 115k) since this summer. I cannot tell the difference between it and what I was using before (Castrol syntec 10w40), but the good news is the engine hasn't blown up yet, so 0w40 can't be too bad for it! For my year of car/engine BMW actually specified 15w40 (conventional not synthetic) so I am planning on sticking with a 40 weight oil.

Re: Here's what BMW recommends... Interesting, no mention of Castrol 0w40 even though the label on the bottle says "formulated for BMW, Mercedes and Audi".

Here's what BMW recommends... Click on the link below for BMW's recommendations... Link: BMW NA: Approved Synthetic Engine Oils BTW, thanks for the heads up on the sale. Mobile 1 0w40 sale Napa is selling 0W40 for $5.47 a quart and I'll probably buy a whole bunch of it. Up until now I've run Mobile 1 5w30 with no apparent problems but after reading a recent thread I guess I should be running 0w40. My question is whether running this oil applies to my engine as well...it's an M52 not the M52TU. I've had no issues with 5w30 (that I know of)to date and I've got 250,000km on the car, but if 0w40 is what I should be running then I would like to make the switch. So I guess the question is does this apply to the M52. Thanks in advance guys.
