Lexus is totaled :( And it will cost too much to fix to make it worth it to keep as a salvage...but the good news is that Geico is giving me more than the NADA value (which I was expecting to have to fight to get).

Nader and the Corvair ... Yep, he single-handedly killed the car with "Unsafe at any Speed." He was a lawyer, not an engineer, had no engineering consultations for the book, and he DIDN'T EVEN HAVE A DRIVER'S LICENSE. The Corvair he attacked was the first model with swing axles. Better than average performance and handling, but the design would abruptly lose grip at the rear = big time oversteer. There were a number of accidents resulting from owners overdriving the car (even with traction and stability control, you can exceed the laws of physics in a modern machine). GM NEVER lost a court case, but the damage was done. A nice small, good-handling car went terminal. Crusader 2003 530i SP/PP/Xenon

Special ordered. The only option I wanted was the moonroof, and since pretty much everyone wanted leather and automatic, that's what they kept making. Plus I wanted red, and they weren't making a lot of those, either. When I finally got my car, there was only one other red one on the east coast. The velour has worn like iron. It looks brand new, as does the rest of the car. That plus low mileage (88k) will help bring up the payout, but who knows whether it will be enough.

I hope... ...all will work out ok. That's interesting that Lexus built only three. Was that by special order, or is that just how long it took to find one? I guess that's like the early LS400 I found on a used car lot, with cloth (velour) seats! Lexus built only three of them! (And I waited nine months for it.) It's a real classic. I have my fingers crossed that GEICO won't total it, but right now it isn't looking too good. I didn't even realize it, but the right fender is dented too, from the force of the collision. :( My body guy said he'll do what he can to come in at or below GEICO's payout, but there's just so much he can do.

I hate SCAMMERS... ...like this TOAD (for want of a better expression). Instead of being Blessed and Thanhkful no one was hurt and damage to his "baby" was not as worse as it could have been, he wants to lie and say he has a "boo-boo" so he can try and get paid. May both of the differentials on his RR lock-up and grind themselves to smithereens and Land Rover has a four (4) year back-order on diffs! I'm glad you are ok though. That's most important. OH D@MN!!! Why did I watch that! I'll have nightmares forever now. That happened to my '83 Eldorado AFTER I parked and locked it up after making it home through a blizzard; except, as strange as it sounds, the fire only damaged the passenger inside door panel, the headliner, and oddly, the chrome plating on the plastic dash trim and a/c vents (if one has ever looked at the dash of a '79-'83 or '84 dash, you'll know what I'm talking about). Aside from alot of soot, the car still started and drove like nothing happened. The only problem was the inerior lights would not turn off. I'm glad the driver of the E39 got out. That was close. Re: jeez, cmbg, super happy u r ok! That's scary!!! When I saw the guy on my left I looked to my right to see whether I had room to gun it in that direction to get out of his way. But Murphy was in full force and there was a car there too. Next thing I knew I was playing bumper cars with the RR.

WOW!! I bet that thing... ...felt like a rocket ship!! When I was a kid one of my neighbors had one, but it was a 4-door. I still remember happily getting in it and going for rides with my neighbor and my dad. I grew up on 413 and 440 c.i. Chryslers and 472 c.i. Caddys but that Corvair motor always sounded sweet! There should a V8 and a Corvair motor in every garage, even if they're just bolted to engine stands!! 4-cylinders buzz 6-cylinders growl 8-cylinders ROAR 10-cylinders roar or whirl 12-cylinders hum or whirl Of course, all of the above is dependent on the type of exhaust system that is being used. ;) '00 M5 -Carbon Black -Blk/Blu Sport interior -Mk III Nav. upgrade (16:9 wide screen) -Rogue Engineering short shift kit -Dice iPod integration kit '97 528i -'99 Double VANOS motor and ECU -Jet Black -Sand Beige interior -Black Dashboard (upper/lower) and Center Console -Black all leather shift handle -Debadged -Mr. MPL lower mesh grille -Shadowline (diy) ext. trim -Frenched high beams -Clear front turn signals -Red/clear taillights -Clear side markers -Amber fr. fog lamps -Rear fog lamps -In-dash CD player (CD53 Business) -Dice iPod integration kit -CMT5000VR cell phone (old tech.) -Bav. Re: Nice to see there is more than one sick guy here(m I, then (three years later) my brother, then (another three years later) my sister learned to drive in my Mom's '64 Corvair Sedan. Over the course of more than two dozen years, that car survived three teenaged drivers and a couple of relatively major mechanical (and driver) failures up until the late 80's. I remember, after my brother wiped out the left front corner of the car, going to the junk yard (that's what they were called back then) with my Dad and picking up the sheet metal then rebuilding that mess. Ralph Nader ("Unsafe at any Speed") and some idiot drivers killed that car.
