Re: You need #9, it's a pretty easy part to change (m) JimLev, I am replacing the flange gasket at the solenoid valve but I cannot get the valve to budge. Is it threaded? I cannot tell from the Realoem photo nor can I find it in the Bentley manual. Re: You need #9, it's a pretty easy part to change (m) Fantastic...Thank you! It looks like I'll just have to remove two hex bolts on each side, clean the contact area and reinstall with new gasket. I like easy especially with as much of the car that is torn apart. You need #9, it's a pretty easy part to change (m) you have one on each side of the engine, the drivers side is easier to get at. They are about $10 each last time I bought them. Vanos solenoid seals, #9
You need #9, it's a pretty easy part to change (m)
What year and engine? The solenoid is the (m) valve that controls the oil flow to the vanos cylinder. There is an o-ring around it that can leak. See #2 and 3

Re: Probably referring to the VANOS solenoid >> Ed...Thanks for the reminder about my signature. I added it today but for more information on this post I have a '01 540i Sport manufactured in November 2000. I really appreciate everyone's input. Re: Front Cam Solenoid?
Re: Front Cam Solenoid? Probably the Cam Position Sensor as you said. I only know of 1 o-ring when I replaced mine. Not too big of a deal to replace the o-ring but replacement of the CPS on my 1997 528i was a booger because that the location of the electrical plug required someone with small hands/arms to reach.Gordon Jones 1997 528i
Probably referring to the VANOS solenoid >> If you have more than one, you must have the M52TU, or an M54 engine. If you wish us to help you, you must ID the car, MY, and date of manufacture. Create a signature with that data. Look at mine for suggestions. Ed in San Jose. BMW CCA member since 1987 (Nr. 62319). Golden Gate Chapter. '97 540i 6 speed. Build Date 3/97. Aspensilber over Aubergine leather.

Front Cam Solenoid? What is a front cam solenoid? Is that the CPS? My dealer advises me to replace the O-rings on them. Thanks, David
