    If it is a flaccid tensioner, the chain will beat>

    the Hell out of the tensioner rail, and eventually destroy the plastic insert.

    More than likely your chain is slapping due to

    bad tensioner or worn guides. 10W-60 won't help there, you need to address that pronto.

    One more thing.....

    I also have this crazy rattle at start up...someone suggested that was a vanos problem??

    Again any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    10W/60 in a 540i?

    Hi guys I really need help....

    I have a 99 540i

    I am not sure if its my vanos or if its my lifters but I am hearing this crappy knock/tapping when my car gets warm.

    someone suggested putting 10W/60 to quiet it down??

    Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
