If it is a flaccid tensioner, the chain will beat> the Hell out of the tensioner rail, and eventually destroy the plastic insert. Ed in San Jose. BMW CCA member since 1987 (Nr. 62319). Golden Gate Chapter. '97 540i 6 speed. Build Date 3/97. Aspensilber over Aubergine leather.

Re: 10W/60 in a 540i? One more thing..... I also have this crazy rattle at start up...someone suggested that was a vanos problem?? Again any advice would be greatly appreciated.

10W/60 in a 540i? Hi guys I really need help.... I have a 99 540i I am not sure if its my vanos or if its my lifters but I am hearing this crappy knock/tapping when my car gets warm. someone suggested putting 10W/60 to quiet it down?? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys!
