Re:It appears my center link and tie rod ends (m)

need to be replaced also. I just checked Autohausz in Arizona and they show the center link as TRW OEM but the tie rod ends as Meyle. I don't usually like to steer away from OEM but does anyone have an opinion on Meyle?

    Thanks,

Reposition wheel carrier? Do you have a (m)

spring compressor? If not, most auto supply houses will lend/rent you one.

Re: Replacing Thrust Arms on 540i

The top portion of the ball joint stud snapped off. Thankfully I was able to get my ball joint tool wedged atop the broken stud and it finally popped out. I also doused it with PB Blaster lube which I think helped.

I have reinstalled the new thrust arm and working on the driver side.

What is the best way to reposition the wheel carrier? I tried using my jack but it just moves the spring up.

    Thanks for the assistance too!

Re: Replacing Thrust Arms on 540i

You are saying the top of the thrust arm balljoint stud snapped off? Leaving the balljoint still attached to the knuckle? If you can get a picklefork in there then that would be the next step. Don't damage the knuckle though.... Since the thrust is being replaced, if you cannot get the joint separated, I would consider removing the lower control arm at the balljoint, removing the brake assembly, etc. Cut the thrust arm with a sawzall and simply move the whole strut/knuckle assembly to a bench to work on the frozen thrust arm stud. May be easier than killing yourself under the car....

    Replacing Thrust Arms on 540i

I'm replacing my thrust arms on my '01 540i and attempting to remove the passenger side ball joint. The ball joint stud snapped off the top using my removal tool.

Any ideas how to get it out at this point?

    Thanks,
