Re: Guessing the car did sit, the 18 years What a shame to let a car like that sit and decay for so long. Kinda like marrying Ann Hathwaway and then deciding to remain celibate.

Guessing the car did sit, the 18 years My guess is the car did sit that long, and then the rings/cylinders ruined from trying to start it with rust on the cylinder walls. Cant imagine someone spending $5K to rebuild a healthy 23K mile motor, only to turn and sell the car. Quoted from the listing: "IN MARCH OF 1992 ... WITH ONLY 23,500 ORIGINAL MILES ... THIS CAR ENDED UP IN STORAGE FROM 1992 TIL AUGUST OF 2010. ... WHEN I RECIEVED THIS LOW MILEAGE BEAUTY ... I ORDERED OVERSIZED PISTONS FROM BAVERIA AUTO RECYCLING INC LOCATED IN RANCHO CORDOVA CALIFORNIA WHICH COST ME $1,185.73 THE ENGINE WAS REMOVED AND BORED 30 OVER..."Craig 85 M635CSi 85 745i 71 F-250

Re: that was mileage in .92 when it was registered back in'85, if one wanted to bribe the conversion shop, it was possible, also, the dealer in Germany often messed with the odometer prior to the sale because they could. I'm not saying that this car was subject to any of this, but this sort of stuff did exist when there were so many Americans flooding Europe to get the best deal in the world on a premium car.
Re: that was mileage in .92 when it was registered
Mines better too, but not bad except for the rust the chain guides and rubber parts will Have to be replaced due to age, if they haven't been changed already.

Re: that was mileage in .92 when it was registered When these cars were federalized the DOT required a speedo swap. Most likely it has much higher mileage. That kind of rust doesn't happen at such low mileage.
Actually looks nice. But there is a little rust by the right rear tail light, and what appears to be surface rust in the trunk. Still a nice specimen. Ofcourse, since it hasn't been driven much, some seals, hoses (and other rubber stuff) may need to be replaced, but still a nice looking car.

that was mileage in .92 when it was registered At least that is what I recollect after viewing the titpe copy..... Anyone believe this one on the bay? Supposedly about 23K on the clock. Same color as mine but frankly, with 117K, mine looks to be in better shape.
