Very true, but I replaced my oem shocks when they were still in new condition, so comparison was apt. As a matter of fact I gave them to someone who needed shocks and they are still working well for him. Upgrade from standard suspension to my sport shocks.

any NEW shock will give......... a huge improvement over blown shocks - brand doesn't matter I loved KONI's on my 1959 36HP WV bug

I was more than happy with my FSDs!!!! And just like you stated, they were a large improvement over stock (since the stockers were pretty beat) but offered a very nice, smooth ride during normal driving but improved performance when things got more spirited.

It's a 20% across the board sale on all KONI's It certainly does seem that most buy Bilstein's on this board, but KONI is a worldwide brand that is known as the Cadillac of shocks with a lifetime guarantee too. Had the adjustable kind on my 2002 and they made a remarkable difference. You'd be looking for something completely different when comparing KONI to Bilstein. The FSD's give a smoother ride with better handling than stock. The Bilstein's are more firm (too rough for most) than stock, with better, more hard-core handling.

KONI vs BILSTEIN ...maybe because everyone buys BILSTEIN's ???

If you've considered KONI FSD's ever, take a look at the best price I've seen in years at tire rack as they have them on sale now. For my car: KONI
