I think that was just scratching the surface...

...of all the commitments they have to fulfill

Re: I wonder if they are trying to pull an earlier ...

I understand what you mean now. Does this hurt him at Williams and would you say that MS is the best at understanding the car and communicating information to the engineers? I've heard that he spends a lot of time with the engineers and gets into the fine details of how, what, and why with the car.

Re: I wonder if they are trying to pull an earlier ...

both and dumb and stupid would be an unprecedented accomplishment. He's a driver and not the brightest one on the grid at. I'm not suggesting he's stupid, but he's not an engineer or someone who strikes me as having the capability of understanding a language he's not been taught and then relaying it for the benefit of another team.

Yeah, I know. I was just giving charisma value. As for the whirlwind PR events that the drivers must attend to, JPM did pretty decently with the "swapping places" event.

by PR I ment the sponsor events which apparently he tries to get out of doing as much as ha can, not the merchendise (no argument there)<br><img src="http://homepage.mac.com/booboo/.Pictures/axis.jpg"height=180 width=180>

We'll agree to disagree. Though, when it comes to marketing commodities Montoya is one of the best. Despite his obnoxious personality his personal line of products is only second to Schumacher in success and he has a large and devote following, albeit largely Columbian. McLaren is a corporation and I'm sure he'll be get everything he needs...and my prediction is that he'll be faster than KR.

Re: Yes, & since this is a prememptive move by Mac

JV stanks...the worst possible option. He has everything Montoya does, EXCEPT the speed.

I think letting JPM drive in 2004 would be a good idea. He's not going to change his style,he's going to go balls out for the WDC.

Yes, & since this is a prememptive move by Mac

to force Williams' hand, I think FW will pay him 6mm to sit out 2004.
He won't like it...but the greater good of the team (data, innovation) will be the prevalent thought.

That said, since all the good young drivers are inked to long term contracts beyond '05...& since BMW is keen on Marketing they want a German driver & some1 for their most Important market (USA) & with the Canadian GP back in the fold...Jacques will be back!

Losing the Columbian hurts BMW's marketing purposes in the West, that's why Jacques (while not a PR darling) helps alleviate some of the marketing loss that goes w/ JPM.

    Just me wishing out loud...

    it\'s the little things....

...that will make a difference. Like, will his race engineers like him or thing he's a [Oops!] like at Williams.... will he be good at doing all the corollary sponsor PR..... you know what I mean. Plus, from a purely market prospective JPM is not exactly regarded as the hottest commodity, while he's not moving to McL for peanuts, he's not getting top dollar either.

<b>LOL, Supersonic, you think JPM has the brain let alone the access to the relay anything of value to McLaren? I doubt Montoya is ever in the lab looking indepth at anything nor would he understand any of it if he did. Besides, he's going to McLaren, not Minardi. Teams don't just tack on little bits here and there, it's an integrated package. What might work on the Williams probably won't mesh with the McLaren package.

Also, early announcement might have been made to

get JPM in the McLaren by this season as no doubt an akward situation has arisen and Williams and Head do not like JPM. Some have said FW and PH wanted JPM gone more than he wanted to leave.

Re: budget\'s got nothing to do with it...

True, but we're not dealing with BAR-Honda here. Maybe it's me, but McLaren strikes me as the sort of team that's all business and is not going to favor one driver or another cause of their personality. I can't see Ron Dennis allowing non-sense like that within his camp.

Great now Michael will have 8 championships

Ferrari proves that a clear #1 and #2 wins championships. Splitting points between KR and JPM will only allow Micheal to win championships more easily. I can't wait to see wRONg Dennis face when his two drivers collide into each other, that would make me and any Ferrari fan more happy than ever.

I wonder if they are trying to pull an earlier ...

switch of drivers? Why would they annnounce a year ahead of time? Wonder how DC and Frank Williams feel about their current lineup for 2004. DC would probaly rather go somplace where he is "wanted" and Frank would probably rather be calling the shots himself. Jees, lets give JPM a whole year to learn more secrets of the FW-25(?) and take them over to Ron Dennis.
Wouldn't suprize me to see some switching before OZ.

budget\'s got nothing to do with it...

...it's a matter of winning the team over, one way or another. MS is a genius in this respect...JPM needs to learn that kind of politics.<br><img src="http://homepage.mac.com/booboo/.Pictures/axis.jpg"height=180 width=180>
