Based upon my experience with the X5, other BMW's and feedback from other X5 owners, in my opinion, the various CAI's and aftermarket exhausts rarely add much noticeable HP. Various tuners may claim HP increases from 8-20 HP but often time those numbers aren't realistic. Often times, a decrease in HP may even occur. Looking at the best case scenario, if the HP gains are there, they are usually at the very "top" end, not where you can really benefit from these mods. Most of the time these gains are accomplished by sacrificing both low to mid HP and torque. A complete "S2" package from Dinan that includes not only a CAI and exhaust, but also software, high flow throttle body and MAF is more likely to give you more positive HP gains but that too does so by sacrificing low end HP and torque. If you do a lot of city driving, you need that bottom end HP and torque to get you around. If you do the CAI and exhaust mods don't expect a whole lot of HP gain but on the flip side the sound of the CAI and exhaust will be awesome! I'm not trying to dissuade anyone from doing these mods but rather giving my "real world" experince with some of these mods I have experienced myself. IMHO
