If BMW M wanted to win so many races with the E46 M3, why didn't they reduce the weight of it and/or put a V-8 in it?

They'll fill it with penalty weight until Audi can

catch it. Kinda sad how Audi needed hundreds of pounds of weight advantage, all-wheel-drive launches, AND a turbocharged V8 just to get even with a little inline 6 in the BMW, and then needed a good dose of luck to take the championship.

No slam on Randy Posey, he seems like a great guy and a good driver.

Porsche has been somewhat more limited in their scope of racing, but moreover they've tended over the years to use their powerful lobby in classes they've dominated to keep away balanced competition in favor of PR-favorable dominance.

The E30 M3 alone has more touring car victories/championships than Audi has in the past 20 years. Audi doesn't even have a car to really compete with the M3 without wild nascar style weight regulations. Audi does about 1/100th of the racing BMW does and it still can't dominate the few places it does compete. Pathetic.
