    HP is pretty directly related to....

    mass of air 'pumped', so if you can maintain volumetic efficiency the hp inrease is close to rpm increase..minus friction..
    Maintaining the specific airflow is the real trick...

    Well, hp will only increase if the rate of increase in rpm's is greater than the rate of decrease in torque. In other words, there comes a point where the torque curve falls off the edge of a cliff and the throttle just becomes a volume control :)

    So, we also have to consider whether the torque curve for the BMW F1 motor will support higher revs. My guess is that it would, by my calls to Mario Theisen for confirmation have gone unreturned ;)

    The equation for horsepower has engine speed in it. If the engine will go higher there is more power. Now how much higher and how much power are the questions.2002 AW/IR M3/SMG

    the rev counters on the world feed don't seem to show anyone shifting over 18,650 or so, at least not in the race.

    Upping the Revs

    BMW was concerned about the longevity of the engine and kept the revs down.
    Now that they see falling behind the competition, they realize they have to take their chances, and increase the revs past 19,000 to maybe 19,500
