Re: Headlight part Hi Jon: Found this post of yours in the archives. Do you still supply these collars? I'm in the process of updating my headlights on my '95 850Ci and already broke one of these parts. If not, can you share how you made the parts and your source for materials? Thanks, Scotty M
I Like my Euro set up better :: :>
US stuff huh.. I like euro myself :>
Got any more of those headlight shocks? I totally forgot about those. Also How much was the euro adjuster set?
Got any more of those headlight shocks?
Re: Probably do not need to do anything right now but The Euro adjusters are made with the typical BMW recycled plastic and usually break easily with age. The adjusters on the Euro headlights on my #1 car are fine but I did purchase a full set (3/headlight) from Gault as well as the special installation tool for future insurance. That generally means I will never need them. The adjusters on Canadian8ers J-spec 91 were all broken probably due (I suspect) to worn out headlight absorbers and Japanese road conditions. All better now and the full procedure to replace the adjusters can be found on e31faq.com. 91 E31 Brilliantrot (X2) 92 Lexus SC400 Green (familymobile)
Re: Probably do not need to do anything right now but
Thanks Jon
Probably do not need to do anything right now but would like to see if there are anything that can be fabricated to strengthen the original design of the adjusters. I am guessing they are not the same as the US adjusters.
Probably do not need to do anything right now but
Re: Jon...I need to talk to you about Euro Ellipsoids. Have replaced the adjusters in Canadian8ers Euro headlights if thats what you are referring to. 91 E31 Brilliantrot (X2) 92 Lexus SC400 Green (familymobile)

Re: Jon...I need to talk to you about Euro Ellipsoids. I have looked at them but have not done anything to them in regard to repairs. I believe that Tom has though. Jon
Re: Tried to do replacement yesterday but In other words the bucket plastic threads had been stripped where the screw with the slotted head penetrates. I think there are a couple approaches, first, simply put some JB Weld in the hole and then thread the screw back in. I think I would prefer to drill the hole out, fill it with JB Weld, then drill and tap to fit the screw. A third approach would be to drill, tap and insert a Helicoil into the hole. There might be other fixes as well, but thats what I come up with now. Jon
Re: Tried to do replacement yesterday but
Tried to do replacement yesterday but the oft-breaking collars were OK. It was the fixed point where the problem lay. The screw was coming out of the headlight bucket end of the connection. Any idea how to fix this?

Re: Are these still available and... Greg: Here is a shot of the "assembly" showing the adjuster wheel (vertical in this case), the slider assembly, and the broken plastic collar. Here is the copper replacement collar in place: Also, here is the picture of the OEM adjuster wheel kit. I understand that dealers can now order them but if you are unsuccessful, let me know as I have a half dozen extras. Note that the oem kit does not come with the replacement collar, which is why I started making them, so that you would not have to go out and spend $350 for a new lens assembly. . I will send you an email on the details. Jon '92 850i 6-speed

Jon...I need to talk to you about Euro Ellipsoids. Are you experienced with them? Mine are new but want to prevent future failure.
