A low-boost s38 like a good candidate for an e85 conversion. They're doing amazing things with e85 on turbo cars.

After doing several builds on the s38 and the M88, forced induction is possible but not simple. DINAN put in the effort but for a ton of cash with decent results. These motors DO NOT like ultra high compression. Unless you run race gas, you have to lower the compression for forced induction. The aformention ~0.5 boost is novel but pointless. Check out Frank Fahey motorsport for High RPM power or Korman for a stroker (the right way with an S38) or Turbo Charging Dynamics for big turbo power on an M30. Every body here is telling you right. Does working in open loop effect the performance?

The last month ;i recognize a decrease in my S38B35 engine power,
do u think that working in an open loop, would be the reason of that power decrease?

I don't care what kinda boost you run if you don't build the engine to go w/ the supercharger it is a grenade!

I'll be using Megasquirt on my engine. Just about any aftermarket EFI system should work.

I spoke to an engine builder who had a bit experience with the m5 engines, and he hinted that 0.5-0.7 bars should work fine on 1:10.5 compression and stock internals. 450bhp should be within reach.

This of course requires proper intercooling and engine management, and it's not my fault when you blow up your engine...

I don't see the point in supercharging a high compression multi-valve motor.

If you want to supercharge something, an M30 is a much more likely candidate. They are 8:1 and have simpler valve trains. Scottie Sharpe

I don't mean to talk you out of it, but an m30 is far more common and much cheaper than the s38. If all you want is power, an m engine isn't usually the way to go. They are built for high reving and quick response, and a supercharger removes both of those traits. Also, the 535is is far more common than the m5, and MUCH cheaper to find.

In my opinion, it is better to turbo an m30 than to do anything else if power's what you're looking for. If you want quick response and linearity, the s38 is the way to go.

If you're set on a supercharging an s38, than go for it. But to answer your question, I don't know anything about superchargers beyond the basics of how they work.

the answer is because ,in my opinion, it is better to supercharge -with low boost- a 286 hp engine,than supercharging a 218 hp with a high boost level!!!do u agree,it do make sense.
besides the e28 535is/i is so rare to find.
let me ask u another time: do u think 4-6 psi is an acceptable boost to this engine?!

Can I ask why? Buy a 535is and supercharge that. It'll cost you far less, and will be just as good, you can even put the m badge on if you really want to.

Hello there........

I have 1987 M5 s38b35 engine, with compression ratio of 1:10.5
Recently, I'v chipped my car and it goes very well,but want more power.
I'v got a clutch activated supercharger (denso-toyota),my question is how much boost can apply on this high CR engine,of course with an intercooler,additional fuel injectors,fuel booster,retarding the ignition if necessary
.
Do u think that 4-6 psi is acceptable?
